Tennessee Titans

With its headquarters in Nashville City, Tennessee, the Tennessee Titans is one of the numerous professional football confederations in America. Currently, the league of Tennessee Titans is a member of the AFC or American Football Conference, Southern division in the National Football League.

They were previously recognized as the mighty Houston Oilers, the team that started playing in the year 1960, and stood as American Football League member. The Houston Oilers then bagged two major AFL championship titles before they linked with NFL, as part of the merging of AFL and NFL.

The now Tennessee Titans football team moved to Tennessee state in the year 1997 and they first competed in Memphis for one tournament season, before they finally relocated to Nashville. For two consecutive seasons, the football team was known as Tennessee Oilers and later on in 1999, they changed it to Titans.

Bud Adams owned the then Houston Oilers. Adams was a Houston-based oilman who has done series of unfortunate bids for an expansion of an NFL squad in Houston. This known NFL bidder was also tagged as the second-most prominent AFL owners, along with the other eight individuals. He and Kansas City Chiefs/Dallas Texans creator Lamar Hunt were then more fiscally established than the rest.

The Houston Oilers appeared during the first three championship of AFL. When they place a contract with Billy Cannon, an LSU trophy winner, they achieved a significant triumph over the National Football League or NFL.

During the early decades of 80’s, the team actually suffered after losing 23 consecutive away competitions. That was an unsurpassed record that remained in one piece until the loss of Detroit Lions road game happened in 2003.

In the year 1984, the Oilers bagged a bidding combat for Warren Moon; a CFL prodigy yet did not come back to the final tournament until the year 1987. Starting that year until 1993, the team became one among the most successful football leagues in the American Football Conference. They have made the championship every year though they failed to reach the level of Super Bowl. In the year 1991, they succeeded the first division title.

The era of Tennessee Oilers run from 1997-1998 and their own, new stadium was not functional until the year 1999. However, at that time, the biggest stadium where football was held was in Nashville and it could only accommodate 41, 000 persons. Adams, the football team owner, rejected the 41, 000-capacity Vanderbilt Stadium even if it only meant a temporary facility. Instead, he decided and announced that the next competitions of Tennessee Oilers will be held at the Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium, which is in Memphis. That was a hassle on the players’ part since they still have to travel to Memphis for every competition, for they are based in Nashville. As a result, it relegated the players to a total of 32 road competitions. Few individuals were pleased by this kind of setting even though the schedule was all right for the Oilers as well as for the NFL.

Today, there has been a series of developments to Tennessee Titans football team. Adams, who remained the owner of the league, changed it to Titans. This was joining the launching of the newest and better stadium located in Nashville. Despite the change of the name, he assured of an intact heritage.

The Tennessee Titans logo stayed the same, since their debut in the year 1960. It is still the illustration of an oil rig platform. There may be some minor modifications yet this symbol was all the same until the league was renamed Titans in the year 1999.

The uniforms of the team consisted of white or blue jerseys, white pants and red trim. Commonly, they sported blue pants with white jerseys. They also sported blue helmets, until it was changed into silver, and then color white.

The football team Titans was the only league that did not make radio broadcasts for retransmission. Meaning, they did not make it available at outside local market locations of the member stations.
