Seattle Seahawks

One of the professional football teams in America is the Seattle Seahawks. Also known as the Hawks, they are the National Football Conference’s Western Division members. The Hawks, together with the other football squad, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, became an NFL member in the year 1976.

The Hawks is the sole football team to compete in both NFC Championship and AFC Tournaments. They have one appearance in the Super Bowl game. They lose in a score of 21-10, favoring the Pittsburgh Steelers during the Super Bowl XL.

The franchise history of the Hawks started in 1972 as the Seattle Professional Football Incorporation, a confederation of Seattle community and business leaders, decided their intention to get hold of a franchise of NFL, for Seattle, Washington. Two years after, the NFL granted the expansion franchise. On 1974, Pete Rozelle, the NFL Commissioner proclaimed the official franchise agreement signing through Lloyd W. Nordstrom. Nordstrom represents their family, being the majority business associates for the conglomerate. Unfortunately, Nordstrom died few months when the Seattle Seahawks was scheduled to compete in their first game.

The franchise was still unnamed, John Thompson being the general manager of the squad. The name Seattle Seahawks was chosen on the 17th of June 1975. The selection of the name underwent a public contest where over 20, 000 entries and more than 1, 700 names were sent.

The first to coach the team was Jack Patera, hired by Thompson. Patera was the assistant coach of the football team, the Minnesota Vikings. His coaching profession for the team was acknowledged in 1976, in a press meeting.

The extension plan was held in 1976 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Seattle Seahawks football teams leading, as the management chose players from the rest of the 26 football teams of the NFL league. The Hawks got the 2nd general pick award during the draft in 1976. This was the pick they made use on Steve Niehaus. The Hawks took the arena against the San Francisco 49ers in 1976.

The Seattle Seahawks football team is the only NFL football member to swap conferences two times during the era of post-merger. This repositioning was a 1976 extension plan part. At the start of 1998 season, the team initiated Blitz, as their mascot. It has been their certified mascot. To add creativity and fun during tournaments, the team would fly Faith, a hawk, around the arena before the whole Seattle Seahawks football players come out. Yet due to the hawk’s small size, it was replaced with the current team’s mascot named Taima. It started leading the squad in 2006 of September.

When the Hawks was introduced in 1976, the Seattle Seahawks logo was a head of a hawk, in forest green and royal blue colors. They based this symbol on the tribal art of the Northwestern. Their pants and helmet were colored silver and their home uniforms were in royal blue shade with green, blue and white arm stripes. The team’s road uniform was white, hinted with green and blue arm stripes. Generally, the color of the team is a combination of white, neon green, navy blue and pacific blue.

The Hawks also has their portion of fame and recognition as four of their players were listed in the Hall of Famers. The four players were inducted in 1990, 195, 2004 and 2006. They also have ten players who are part of the Ring of Honor.

The team had been to 5 coaches. Mike Holmgren serves as their head coach and currently heads the team. The Seahawks Seattle football team is owned by Paul Allen and generally managed by Tim Ruskell. Sea Gals is the name of the team’s cheerleading squad.
