Minnesota Vikings
Winning one NFL championship title and was the first football team to compete and lose in four consecutive Super Bowls, the Minnesota Vikings is among the American football teams cheered by millions of football devotees.
They comprise the North Sector of the NFC or National Football Conference and have bagged 16 awards during the division tournaments. The Minnesota Vikings is also the only team belonging in the NFL that have been active and pre-date the era of Super Bowl, yet the team neither won any Super Bowl or any league championship title.
Also known as The Vikes, the Minnesota Vikings was established in the year 1961 after withdrawing its group membership from the American Football League, agreeing to merge as expansion team to the NFL. The Vikes competed in home games held at the Metropolitan Stadium until the NFL’s 1981 season. They also had their home competitions held at the metrodome of Hubert H. Humphrey ever since 1982.
The Minnesota Vikings history in franchise began in the 1960’s, the decade when the team was also founded. On the 27th of September 1960, the team was formally recognized as Minnesota Vikings, from Red Jackets and Minneapolis Marines. This was the 14th NFL franchise with tournament to start in 1961. The ownership group was composed of Max Winter, H.P. skoglund and Bill Boyer, along with Bernie Ridder. When the franchise was granted, Ole Haugsrud added the ownership. This agreement allowed Haugsrud 10% of the future Minnesota football team.
The current team name of the league reflects the region of Minnesota being the center of the culture of the Scandinavian American. Since the beginning, the Vikings have embraced an active marketing scheme, which resulted to an overwhelming sales ticket of around 26, 000, with a home attendance of approximately 34, 586. This is around 85% of the 40, 800 stadium capacity. During this season, Norm Van Brocklin was the chief coach, who had just accomplished his quarterback career for Philadelphia Eagles team.
The 70’s decades showed a continuous victory of the Vikings. This era, they were also known as the “Purple People Eater”. Their game defenses where impressive enough for their team players to have bagged the Most Valuable Player award by the NFL.
There was a relocation of the team during the period of 1980. They moved to a place with better facilities such practice fields, locker rooms and team’s offices. The complex was known as Winter Park, following the name of Max Winter who was among the founders of the team. Winter has also served as their president from 1965 up to 1987.
In 1990 era, Jason Burns, the Viking’s head coach for six seasons, declared his retirement. He has compiled a record career of 52-43 and has led the team to appearances during 3 play-offs, taking in the NFC Championship title.
The 2000 period for the Vikings pose a not so fortunate competition. They achieved a disappointing 5-11 and was thrashed by the New York Giants during the conference championship. There was a series of player replacements during this era.
Currently, the Minnesota Vikings is ownded by Reggie Fowler, Alan Landis, David Mandelbaum, Leonard Wilf, Jeffrey Wilf, Mark Wilf and Zygi Wilf. They conduct series of enhancement trainings at a state university of Minnesota, which they have been doing since 1966.
For the Minnesota Vikings logo, it basically remained similar. Their two main logos include a norseman that is blond and a Viking horn in white color. The helmet of the team is colored purple with the logo on every side. The design of the uniform is consist of white or purple jerseys, gold trim and white pants. Their white jersey design is the most unique among the football uniforms in American football leagues.
The Vikings devotees chant to their fight song Skol, Vikings. Ragnar, the mascot also joins the millions of fans.
