Miami Dolphins

If you have long been a huge fan of the National Football League (NFL), then it is pretty much obvious that you have heard of the powerhouse players of the Miami Dolphins. However, if you haven’t, then let this be your chance to be acquainted with one of the greatest teams in the entire NFL history.

The Miami Dolphins football team is based in Miami, Florida (Metropolitan Area). They are, at present, a member of the American Football Conference, representing the Eastern Division in the NFL. During their home games, they host games in the Miami Dolphins Stadium in the suburb of Miami Gardens. The team first emerged in the scene of professional American football as an expansion team in 1966. They started off as a charter member of the American Football Leagues (AFL) founded by Joseph Robbie. The Dolphins are one amongst the original team to have been invited to join the AFL-NLF merger, and the oldest professional sports franchise in the state of Florida owned by Wayne Huizenga.

The Miami Dolphins made their very first Super Bowl appearance in the Super Bowl VI, the 1971 season, but unfortunately lost against the Dallas Cowboys. However, in the following year, the Dolphins finished off the NFL’s regular season winning all 14 games, in what is known as the only perfect season in the entire history of the Super Bowl era. Along with the perfect winning streaks, is winning another two playoff games and finally the national championship title in Super Bowl VII. Subsequently, the team also won the Super Bowl VIII, making them the second team to win the back-to-back titles and the first team to consecutively appear three times in a row in the Super Bowls. The team also appeared in Super Bowl XVII and XIX, but lost both games.

For almost all of the Miami Dolphins entire existence, they were coached by Don Shula, the current head coach to have the highest number of winning records in all of football history. His team only posted 2 lost out of its 26 seasons under his supervision. In fact, they are currently only the NFL team to have never had 2 consecutive loses.

The team served as home to 6 Football Hall of Famers and has played in the team during the 70’s, including quarterback Bob Griese and running back Larry Csonka. During the late 80s until the early 90s, quarterback Dan Marino was acclaimed as the most productive passer in the entire NFL history, breaking innumerable records. Marino led the team to winning several playoff games and then leading them to the Super Bowl XIX.

Miami Dolphins Logo And Uniforms

Except for some minor twitches all throughout the running years, the Miami Dolphins logo and uniforms have generally remained the same. The logo from the first time it was used in 1966 until now consists of a dolphin wearing a football helmet and a shining sun behind it. Their uniform included aqua green or white jerseys and pants, white helmets, and orange trim.

In 1997, the color dark blue was added as accents to both their uniforms and their logo. The hash-marks around the sunburst in the logo were removed, as well as accentuating the features of the dolphin itself.

The Miami Dolphins is one of the so called living legends in the NFL history. They may be one amongst the oldest, original teams to have joined the AFL-NFL merger leading to the modern day Super Bowls, but what sets them apart from other teams is their excellence and their dedication to winning, and winning with pride and dignity, just like how they do it in Miami.
