Indianapolis Colts

The Indianapolis Colts may have initially struggled their way on the football field after they were relocated out of Baltimore in 1984, winning only 90 out of 228 games until the 1997 season.

Ever since Bob Irsay, the original owner of the Colts, died, his son Jim Irsay took over the franchise in 1998. After the death of Bob Irsay, the Indianapolis Colts football team become the only the second team in the entire history of NFL to win 12 games or more in even 4 consecutive seasons. If they repeat the same feat in the 2007, they will achieve an all-time winning percentage of 50 percent.

The Indianapolis Colts are coached by Anthony Kevin Dungy, or more commonly known as Tony Dungy. Dungy is a former football player himself, a quarter back of the University of Minnesota. Prior to being the head coach for the Colts, between 1996 until 2001, Dungy was also the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was even the first African-American to have coached a team that won a Super Bowl National Championship when the Colts defeated the Bears last February 2007.

The Indianapolis Colts are a member of the American Football Conference as a representative of the Western division for the NFL. The team is based in Indianapolis, Indiana and is the most recent National Football League national champions for having won the Super Bowl XLI last February 4, 2007.

The Colts have won the game over the Chicago Bears with 29-17 final tally. The exhilarating championship was played in the Dolphin Stadium. The Colts started of with a rocky start. For the first time in all Super Bowl history, rain was pouring all throughout the game, which contributed to the 6 turnovers committed by each team only during the first half.

Indianapolis Colts along with their victory during the recent Super Bowl achieved a lot of firsts in the NFL history. The become the first dome team to have won a Super Bowl game in an outdoor stadium, the first to win after a series worst play in the regular season, and the first ever team to win in the rain.

The Colts’ Logo And Uniforms

The Indianapolis Colts logo as well as their uniforms has remained typically the same ever since they have debuted in 1953. The Indianapolis Colts’ helmet is solid white with a horseshoe logo on the sides. They are currently using blue jerseys with white shoulder stripes and an alternate white jersey with blue shoulder stripes. The team also has white pants with blue stripes.

From 1982 until 1986, the team wore blue jerseys and gray pants. Their pants have a horseshoe logo on top on the sides with the players’ corresponding number inside the horseshoe. In 1987, the gray pants have retired and until now the Indianapolis Colts have been wearing the white pants.

The Colts’ New Stadium

After more than 20 years of playing in the RCA Dome, the Colts’ dream of playing in a bigger, more advanced field have come true. The Colts will be playing in one of the finest stadium starting the fall of 2008. The stadium is seven-level, with even a retractable seating capacity of 63,000. It has an estimated cost of $675 million. In a naming deal estimated to cost a whooping $122 million, the Lucas Oil Products won the rights, thus the stadium is now called the Lucas Oil Stadium.

The Indianapolis Colts may have began their professional football career at a bumpy pace, but after the supervision of both their new owner and their new coach, things have gone better, a whole lot better!
