Arizona Cardinals
Where do you think you can find the hottest football team in America? It comes with their location. Arizona may not be so much inhabited with millions of people due to its desert-like, warm land area but definitely, they are not forsaken with the best football players in the country.
The Arizona Cardinals was the oldest incessant professional football team of the United States. It was established in the year 1898, which was still known as Morgan Athletic Club in the state of Chicago.
With its set location in the metropolitan area of Phoenix, the Arizona Cardinals football league started playing the all-home competitions at the stadium of the University of Phoenix in Glendale. The practice facility and headquarter of the team are situated in Tempe. This has been their location ever since the relocation of the team from St. Louis following the year 1987 season. Currently, the Arizona Cardinals is a member of the Western Division of NFC or National Football Conference in the League of National Football.
Then, this league was named Racine Normals because originally, they were situated in the Normal Park of Racine Avenue in Chicago. Later, the name was changed to Racine Cardinals after starting to sport uniforms with dark reddish shades. This uniform color idea was taken from the Chicago Maroons. Thus, that was only low-budget, hand-me-down clothing. However, that tight situation of the Arizona Cardinals proved a perfect image for the lowdown of the team.
When the oldest football league of America became an NFL member in 1920, the club was then renamed Chicago Cardinals, as part of distinguishing them from the new charter which was placed in the city of Racine, Wisconsin state. In the year 1944, joining the World War II’s lean years, the Chicago Cardinals provisionally fused with the team, Pittsburgh Steelers. They turned out as one franchise.
The Cardinals relocated to Missouri, particularly in the city of St. Louis in 1960, and the name was again changed to St. Louis Cardinals. Often, it was called St. Louis Football Cardinals. This was to make a distinction between the baseball squad. Sometimes, it is also called The Big Red especially during the moments when the team brushed some success.
The club moved to Phoenix city in Arizona in the year 1988 after a failed campaign for new football-only arena in the city of St. Louis. They first competed in Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe. Then, the team was known as Phoenix Cardinals before changing it to Arizona in 1994.
Despite the constant relocations and name changing, the squad never had inconsistencies when it comes to tournaments. They remained in Eastern conference or Eastern division. They may have been traditionally known as persistent losers, their championship title awards during NFL leagues in 1947 and 1925 were a signed of huge victory.
As the Arizona Cardinals football team name was already set, they have strategically planned to make a better market through wider franchise. The owner of the squad is Bill Widwill and he was the one who announced about the change of the league’s name, where the NFL owners automatically approved.
As for the uniforms of the team, they have used the red cardinal jerseys handed down by Chris O'Brien, the Morgan Athletic Club builder. And basically, the teams have been sporting what they consider the basic clothing, which was composed of white pants designed with red bands, white helmets and white or red jerseys.
The Arizona Cardinals logo was a bird perched in football’s stitches. In the year 1960, the same year when the franchise moved from Chicago state to St. Louis city, the team has attached this cardinal bird logo to their helmets. In 2005, the team unveiled a more menacing and sleeker sign. The shade of black was added with trim lines on its outside sleeves and shoulders. And for the first time, the team sported red pants, in the hopes of breaking the six-game trailing streak.
