Of course, it wouldn’t gain so much popularity over night. Like everything in this world, success is a mater of hard work and perseverance plus a good amount of action in the field. History Of American Football

Football enthusiasts and historians, who have generally studied the sports and its origins, place an enormous responsibility in rugby (an English popular sport) for its beginnings. The history of rugby occurred in 1823 in some famous rugby boys school in England. Another known influence of American football is its cousin, soccer. Its history is also English, being played as early as the 1820’s.

What Makes The NFL?

The National Football League is the largest and most popular American football games in the entire sports history. The NFL currently includes 32 teams from different cities all across United States and regions. The National League is divided into two divisions: the National Football Conference (NFC) and the American Football Conference (AFC).

What Is AFC And NFC?

American Football Conference or the AFC is one of the two subdivided conferences that make up the NFL. The AFC football was established after the American Football League (AFL) merged with the NFL in June 8, 1966.

Famous football teams such as the Pittsburgh Steelers, Baltimore Colts, and the Cleveland Browns agreed to join the AFC along wit 10 other teams. Whoever wins the AFC championship will own a rightful place to play in the Super Bowl with the NFL. Both the NFC and the AFC are what you may call as the preliminary conferences where the eliminations take place.

At the end of the regular preliminary season, 6 teams from the AFC and 6 from the NFC make their way to the NFL playoffs representing each of the conference. The NFL playoffs culminate the elimination round to the season’s most awaited championship games, the Super Bowl.

The AFC Logo

When both the NFL and the AFL merged in 1966, AFL fans were upset because due to the merger the AFL gave up its name and logo just to become part of the NFL, which ironically is their formal most despised rival. But instead, the merged league made a new logo for the AFC. They still took a couple of elements from the old AFL logo, particularly the big letter A and the six stars surround it.

Until now, the AFC remained generally unchanged since it first debuted way back in 1970. Although it had minor changes like making the letter A bold which it wasn’t when it first launched, and the stars today are blue compared to it being red before. But for unexplainable reason, even if the AFL’s letter A is blue, the AFC’s letter A is red.

AFC is only one amongst the many contributors to the success of the modern day American football. It may have taken on the endeavor of merging with the NFL to end war between their fans, but they sure have made today’s NFL a whole lot better.
