2007 Super Bowl Commercials
As expected the hit list for the top 2007 Super Bowl commercials were flocked with the best concepts, the biggest budgets and the biggest shocks! Gizmodo website has made a compilation of the most lovable and entertaining commercials in Super Bowl XLII. It’s very interesting to know that the website categorized the entries according to what made them stand out. Kind of like the Oscars for the movies, Gizmodo made a really good job with this one. But it’s not all about the website it’s about the commercials, so here they are.
Now before you get to the bottom of the list, get to have preview first of the qualities and the criteria of choosing the best loved hits of 2007 Super Bowl commercials. Of course, there are the basic elements of laughter, creativity, originality, twist and controversy. But on the following list, you’ll get to see criterions that viewers never thought or considered before. Now, enough said, here goes the list.
The funniest 2007 Super Bowl commercial is no less than the Blockbuster Mouse from Blocksbuster.com. When the video clip of the ad leaked out, video sharing sites were immediately swarmed by viewers and Super Bowl fans who found the spot the most amusing and to quote the “cutest”. Gizmodo website classified Blockbuster Mouse as the ad with the “funniest animals”. In other popular video sharing portals, the Blockbuster was voted as the number 1 entry in the online poll. Although Gizmodo favored the Mouse ad as funny, the website stated that’s it concept was old. But luckily for the makers of the ad, they were able to pull it off.
It is definitely difficult to sell an old idea, but with a few script tricks and visual effects, the Blockbuster Mouse was a big success. The secret for winning lay behind the traditional talking animals. Super Bowl ad fans have always been big fans of talking animals, so although it’s an old trick, people still love it.
The next category for the best 2007 Super Bowl commercials was the “Dumbest Ad”. And the chosen entry for this category was the ad for the FedEx that showcased an office in the moon. According to viewers and reviewers of the ad, the FedEx Moon ad was not well researched. There is only 1/6 of earth gravity on the surface of the moon and there is no way that people are floating around like the ones shown on the FedEx moon. Reviewers insist that good humor must be based on facts. The punch line of the ad appeared at the end where an astronaut was swept out by a meteor. Although not entertaining, the FedEx moon ad was still popular probably because it was more of a shock.
Controversial, not really, but Gizmodo categorized the Kissing Snickers ad as one of those “not-that-there's-anything-wrong-with-that” commercials. This 2007 SuperBowl commercial showcased two guys who were fixing a car engine. The twist starts when the other guy pulls out his Snickers, the two men then engaged in a sharing of the snack bar by the mouth, until they ended up kissing. Shocked with what they had just done, they torn off some of their chest hairs. What makes this ad a good entry to the hit list? It’s because a group people went hysterical over the supposed homophobic theme of the ad. But just as Gizmodo said, “not that there is any thing wrong with that!”
The Blockbuster mouse, the FedEx moon and the Snickers Kissing ad are actually just few of the most memorable SuperBowl 2007 commercials. Next year it will be another hit list. And viewers will expect to see traditional concepts like talking animals, humorous twists and all that. Glad to know however, those Super Bowl ads have evolved and are the viewers too.
